“The Internet Freedom Act of 2009” = Example of the gullibility and ignorance of people who think the name of legislation is indicative of it’s content without researching it.

It provides your ISP the “freedom” to determine which web content you can access faster, based upon which content providers (websites) pay more or – alternatively – slow down access to web content from competitors or people who can’t pay (i.e. small businesses, start-ups, user-generated content). Currently ALL content on the web can be accessed at the same speed…that is Net Neutrality.

Basic example: If I am a telecom company / ISP, I will allow your content / webpage to reach our customers (aka: you, reading this) faster…for a fee. If you don’t pay, your content will load slower to our customers trying to access it.

It is nothing more than providing your ISP the ability to censor & control the speed in which you can access certain information online. Other than the monthly fees you pay for internet service, it is also an attempt by telecom companies to monetize the internet (aka: content they didn’t create, don’t own and have no place having any influence over). As a user of the internet, you have no control over how fast certain content will load…your ISP will decide this and collect money for those content providers willing to pay for the speedier connection to you.

Support Net Neutrality, it provides a virtual level playing field for all e-commerce and web content.

PS – If this bothers you, contact John McCain who introduced the legislation…the man who has also received the highest donations from telecom lobbyists. Nothing like a little Quid Pro Quo.
